Taupo Review 07

Summer comes to a close

JUNE 2007

As the central plateau approaches the shortest day we are all experiencing that 'winter nip' in the mornings with average rain after and slightly dry and warm May. Despite days getting shorter, many visitors insist on alfresco dining or picnics on the lake front. I guess it's all part of being rapt up in the romance of this delightful little town.

Now is the time to get organised for a winter break away. With the cold events of winter looming, these should bring several snowfalls to the ski fields making fabulous skiing for a  snow pack accumulation much like it was in 2003.   Why not make Taupo your destination for your next excursion.

ORA GARDEN OPENING

For the past few months the Taupo Museum has welcomed visitors through the doors of the 'Pure NZ Ora Garden' Gold medal winner from 2004 Chelsea Flower Show. Taupo Museum is now the permanent home for this stunning garden, designed to emulate the central plateau and geothermal wonderland - Orakei Korako. Not only can you visit the Ora Garden but the inspiration for the garden itself is situated a short 20 minute drive from Taupo town centre. Treat yourself to the Ora Garden design and then visit Orakei Korako our geothermal wonderland. You can find out more information about both these activities in our sights and activities section.

GPK

Good news for our city visitors, GPK has opened it's doors in Taupo. Located up at The Terraces Resort on the Napier - Taupo highway, this award winning restaurant is a welcome asset to the region. Along with stunning views and alfresco styled dining environment this establishment caters for many pallettes, all occasions and every budget. Come on up and absorb the ambience, enjoy the experience, refine your senses. Open 7 days until late.
